Psalms 18:7
"Whoever suffers from mental illness 'always' bears God's image and likeness in himself, as does every human being In addition, he 'always' has the inalienable right not only to be considered as an image of God and therefore as a person, but also to be treated as such" JPII, Nov. 30 1996
Mental illness is a growing crisis in our society that get swept up underneath what people are comfortable talking about. It is something that if I don’t see it than I don’t have to deal with or if I’m not personally effected by it then I don’t have to deal with it. Except by doing this we are degrading these people who suffer, that they are less than and that they don’t deserve our attention. When we do this we are marginalizing these people who are suffering. Mental illness doesn’t just effect one type of person, it can effect anyone, at any age. Some of the more known mental illnesses include; anxiety, depression, eating disorders, ocd, ptsd, personality disorders, Schizophrenia. People who have a mental illness can end up being homeless, end up in prisons or mental hospitals. In these places we need to be able to reach out and minister to these people, with dignity and respect. We also have to remember those who suffer, but are able to live a ‘normal’ life.
